Hamlet And Hutch

by Cas Sigers

Walter Hutchinson, lovingly known as Papa Hutch to his family, was once a famous Broadway thespian.  To theater aficionados, he is known as the King of Shakespeare as he could take Romeo, Brutus, and even King Lear and own every line, stare and emotion.   After the death of his wife, Papa Hutch moves to a remote town to live with his granddaughter, Tatum, and her daughter Liv.   Papa Hutch has grown an affinity for Liv, who has desires to be the next Judy Garland.  Tatum noticed some odd behavior, but she sees things getting worse for her grandfather.  Tatum soon discovers that her grandfather has early Alzheimer’s.  With a demanding career, an inherited theater, that is now a money pit, and caring for  Papa Hutch, Tatum is stressing. Still, Liv wants to add another responsibility to her plate, when she attends a greyhound adoption fair.  Tatum had to admit the dog had a charisma that is normally only found in humans and day’s later Tatum goes back to get him.

Liv suggests that the play starring Papa Hutch is the main attraction, but Tatum is not sure her grandfather can handle the pressure.   Papa Hutch, however, is excited about doing the show.  Things are looking up. Unfortunately, it is only for a short while, because his Alzheimer’s progresses and Hutch’s behavior becomes more erratic, which includes a scary spells where he wanders off and is lost for an entire day and loses Hamlet. Meanwhile, tickets to see the Broadway veteran sell out, and it looks like the show and the fundraiser will be a success, but when Papa Hutch refuses to go on without he old pal Hamlet, the event is in jeopardy of not happening.  Now everyone is in search of the missing dog so the show can go on.  .  WRITTEN & PRODUCED BY CAS SIGERS

I agree, it is a very sweet movie and i think that it speaks very well of Mr. Reynolds to have accepted this role.Even in earlier days, when he played womanizers he had a very own and sensitive sense of humor i always liked. But to my opinion his star role was in "Waterproof". Anyway as sweet as this movie was it was not very realistic, when it came to greyhounds. Uninformed people might think that a rescued greyhound makes a good therapy dog right away! Also it is good to remember that they have a very strong drive to chase! But with loving care they will be great dogs. And certainly should be rescued!
